College football is great when it's good. It's great when it's bad. Kansas and UNLV's Week 3 matchup was more of the latter than the former, but it ended up being one of the most entertaining games of the shortened season.
UNLV came from behind to beat Kansas 23-20. He scored a chaotic touchdown at the halftime buzzer. They cut an 11-point Kansas lead, then shut down the Jayhawks' offense in the second half (holding them to just one field goal) and cruised to the victory.
The wildest play of the game came in the fourth quarter. With UNLV down by four, quarterback Matthew Sulka scrambled up the middle, ran into a Jayhawks defender from behind and promptly fumbled. Kansas tried to dive for the ball, accidentally kicking it forward to another Kansas player who somehow failed to pick it up. Kansas then VI Players tried to dive around the ball but still couldn't get a hold of it. The ball bounced back to UNLV, who eventually got possession. Watch the play here:
Why couldn't Kansas get the ball? Nearly every player in a black jersey on the field had a chance to get the ball, but no one did.
This play actually decided the game. After recovering the fumble, UNLV drove down the field and scored the winning touchdown. They never let up the lead the rest of the game.
Kansas was a two-touchdown favorite coming into the night, so this loss will hurt.
UNLV is 3-0. Kansas is 1-2. It's great to have football back in our lives, even if it means “Yakety Sax”
