The Kansas City Chiefs once again became Super Bowl champions, becoming the first team to win back-to-back titles since the New England Patriots in 2003-04.

The match was a close-knit thriller with the lead changing hands many times. The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime, making it the second overtime game in Super Bowl history.
The 49ers dominated the first half and entered the locker room with a 10-3 lead. Then Patrick Mahomes rallied his team in overtime, cementing his status as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
After trailing 22-19 in overtime, Mahomes led the Chiefs with a 13-play walk-off score. On the final play of the game, Mecole Hardman caught a 3-yard pass from Mahomes, becoming one of only three players to win Super Bowl MVP three or more times.
The Super Bowl-winning drive included Mahomes’ fourth-and-1 read option scramble and tight end Travis Kelce’s 7-yard catch, a must-have score for Kansas City. The NFL’s new playoff overtime rules give both teams at least one guaranteed possession, and the Chiefs had to answer the Niners’ field goal.
The win allowed Kansas City to be considered as the league’s new dynasty after Tom Brady’s historic run with the New England Patriots.
“What a game. It could have gone either way,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters. “I feel lucky to be on the positive side.”
“It’s a little surreal,” Reid said. “I keep getting asked, ‘Is this a dynasty?'” I don’t know what a dynasty is. You have a thesaurus, you just need to understand it. ”
The game started slowly, with both defenses making their presence felt. The 49ers jumped out to a 10-0 lead and won by a touchdown at halftime.
Amid San Francisco’s hot start, cameras caught a frustrated Kelce having a heated conversation with Kansas City’s head coach.
However, Reed quashed rumors of an altercation between the two.
After the game, Reed joked, “It’s a cheap shot, but that’s okay.” “He really came up to me and said, ‘Let me in, I’ll score, I’ll score,’ and that’s really what it was. I like it.”
Following Asher’s performance at halftime, both teams’ offense remained stagnant until the start of the second half. Mahomes threw an interception on the first drive of the third quarter, but the 49ers couldn’t capitalize.
However, the game completely turned around late in the third quarter. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made a Super Bowl-record 57-yard field goal, and the Chiefs converted a fumbled San Francisco punt into a touchdown in the red zone. With Mahomes seemingly crushed in coverage, Marquez Valdes-Scantling ran over the middle for a wide-open touchdown. Kansas City was able to take the first lead of the game at 13-10.
San Francisco countered with a 10-yard receiving touchdown by Jawaun Jennings to put the Niners back on top, 16-13.
The Chiefs fought back with Butker’s 24-yard field goal, and San Francisco kicker Jake Moody made a 53-yard field goal to tie the game. Butker hit a 29-yard field goal to send the game into overtime, and Mahomes fought back with another successful two-minute drill.
With the win, Mahomes will earn his third Super Bowl championship in five seasons and will look to tie Tom Brady’s seven championships and join the conversation of the greatest players of all time.
Additionally, Mahomes has 15 wins in the playoffs, and only two other quarterbacks have more wins: Brady and Joe Montana.
Next season, the Chiefs will aim to become the first team in history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
