Sergeant Hayes, a police officer from Hays, Kansas, was shot and killed during the weekend after responding to a domestic violence call around 11 PM on Saturday.
The incident involved a woman, identified as Zane Wickham, 34, who reported that she was “trying to escape,” when Wickham allegedly drove his truck into her vehicle.
Upon arrival, Hyman and other officers established a perimeter around Wickham’s residence when shots were fired. Hyman was struck and succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
