A lawsuit filled with bizarre claims about rapper and entrepreneur Kanye West has been filed by a former employee, accusing him of racial discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.
Former employee Trevor Phillips, who is himself black, alleged in the complaint that West mistreated black employees.
“During his tenure in office, Phillips never witnessed West yelling or verbally abusing a white person, but he did witness Kanye’s frantic yelling at a black person,” the suit states. “I have personally experienced it countless times.”
Mr. Phillips worked for Yeezy and Donda Academy from November 2022 to approximately August 2023. He claimed he witnessed other alleged racist behavior by West, including ordering a black security guard to shave his dreadlocks or be fired.
In response, West is said to have said that he only likes to date white women. But the claims against West (now called Ye) are numerous.
According to reports variety, Phillips was invited to meet with Leaf at the Nobu Hotel in Malibu, California, shortly after his hire. At the hotel, West allegedly asked hotel staff to show the movie “The Batman” from 2022 and to watch the movie with Phillips without sound.
Another claim in the lawsuit was that Ye threatened to punch Phillips in the face, but changed his mind and changed his fist movements into a celebratory imitation of Mario from the Super Mario games. Afterwards, he reportedly said he would give Phillips “one more chance.”
According to reports, West is also accused of telling employees that if they were “fat,” he would be fired. people.
The suit alleges that Kanye “continued to make dangerous comments in front of children” about West’s school, Donda Academy.
West allegedly told the two children that he wanted them to shave their heads, that he was going to put a prison in their school, and that he could lock them in a cage. Staff quickly distracted the children and took them out of the room. ”
In addition to a series of alleged racist abuses, Mr. Phillips’ employment complaints generally focused on his mistreatment. He claimed that while working for West, he suffered mental and emotional distress and was humiliated.
In one instance, Yeh allegedly yelled at Phillips in front of 100 people, saying, “You’re fired!” and “Get that son of a bitch out of here.” Another allegation was that Mr West was unhappy with the garden and made his former employee cry when he pulled plants out of the ground.
Mr. Phillips was also allegedly asked to drive to Mr. West’s farm to scout a potential purchase site. After West toured it and gave his impressions, he reportedly said he intended to purchase the property and hold Phillips responsible. But the next day, the rapper allegedly texted Phillips, “You’re still fired. You’re not at that level.”
Representatives for West did not respond to requests for comment from People, Rolling Stone and the LA Times.
Phillips is seeking more than $35,000 in damages.
