Mayor Bass Discusses Goals for Potential Second Term
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass recently shared her aspirations for a second term, highlighting the installation of solar panel lighting as a potential initiative.
During an interview on MS NOW’s “The Weekend,” host Jonathan Capehart inquired about what she aims to achieve in a second term that she couldn’t implement in her first. Instead of addressing issues like affordability or homelessness, Bass pointed to the significant problem of copper wire theft that has been affecting streetlight functionality throughout the city.
She expressed concern about the impact of these thefts, stating, “A lot of the things I’ve been working on get done… We have a terrible problem with copper wire theft, and street lights go out all the time.” Bass mentioned plans to install 60,000 new solar street lights as part of a strategy to tackle this ongoing issue.
“We install several hundred a month,” she noted, emphasizing her commitment to improving the city’s lighting infrastructure.
Bass is currently campaigning for re-election amid criticisms of her administration’s handling of various situations in Los Angeles. She faces challengers, including Los Angeles City Council member Nitya Raman and reality television figure Spencer Pratt.
