Karine Jean-Pierre Critiques Democratic Party in Memoir

Karine Jean-Pierre, the former White House press secretary under Biden, has voiced strong criticisms of the Democratic Party in her new memoir, sharing her reasons for transitioning to independent status after years as a party member.

In her book, she recounts a particular moment when President Joe Biden announced to his team that he was withdrawing from the race. “While Mr. Biden seemed completely convinced by his decision, I was stunned and emotionally confused. I felt angry and sad. I was furious and heartbroken that this man had dedicated more than 50 years of his life to serving the American people, only to be treated poorly by members of his own party. It was awful,” she reflects.

Jean-Pierre describes her surprise at Biden’s resignation. For many years, she defended his abilities from the press podium, but ultimately she believes his cognitive decline took a toll on the Democratic Party.

She expressed feeling betrayed by the party that had profoundly influenced her life and career. “The Democratic Party defined my life and career… It was about making history, not just with Obama’s campaign, but also as the first Black female and openly gay White House Press Secretary. I never thought about leaving the party until now,” she wrote.

Jean-Pierre also mentions her anxiety surrounding her upcoming appearance on ABC’s “The View” following Biden’s announcement, pondering how to convert her disappointment into tangible action. “How can I channel my disappointment into some concrete action so I can fight for what I believe in without giving blind loyalty to a political party that I no longer feel deserves,” she added.

As she prepared to release her book, Jean-Pierre disclosed her decision to leave the Democratic Party this past June. Before her prominent role in the White House, she was involved with various Democratic presidential campaigns and served as a political analyst at MSNBC.
