Biden signaled he was open to discussing his presidential rival in an interview with radio host Howard Stern on Friday.
“I’ll be there somewhere. I don’t know when, but I’d be happy to debate,” Biden said in response to a question about the possibility.
“You may remember that at that time there was only one person between us and the incumbent.” [former President Carter] and his challenger, [former President Reagan]” Loeb continued in the Fox News appearance. “In late October, when a debate took place, a lot of things were undecided. And the result of that debate was that Ronald Reagan said the right thing and that the voters he was targeting were adamant about his decision. It convinced me to move to the camp.”
Biden previously said whether he would participate in a debate with Trump “depends on what he does.” During the 2020 campaign, Trump was criticized for his behavior on the debate stage. He talked back to the moderator at his first debate and frequently discussed Biden.
The former president responded to Biden’s comments about a possible debate in a subsequent post on Truth Social.
“Crooked Joe Biden just announced he’s ready to debate! We all know he doesn’t mean it, but just in case he does, here’s the old Fighters-used “I’ll use the expression ‘anywhere, anytime, anywhere,'” Trump said.
There are three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate scheduled for the 2024 cycle, starting in September.
