White House Press Secretary Announces Baby News
The White House press room will soon welcome a new addition. Caroline Leavitt, the press secretary, shared on Friday that she and her husband are expecting their second child in May, describing it as “the best Christmas present we could ever ask for.”
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Leavitt expressed her excitement, stating, “My husband and I are excited to expand our family and can’t wait to see our son become a big brother.” She further reflected on motherhood, sharing that her heart is “filled with gratitude to God for the blessings of motherhood” and believing it to be “the closest thing to heaven on earth.”
Leavitt, who is 28, welcomed her first son, Nico, with her husband Nicholas Riccio, who is 60, back on July 10, 2024.
Notably, Leavitt has made a name for herself as a fierce defender of her boss in various media interviews. She’s recognized as the first pregnant press secretary in the country, a unique role that adds even more attention to her position.
Having initially served as a junior aide during President Trump’s first term, she later became his main spokesperson after a congressional run in 2022. Trump has praised her in meetings, recently calling her “our great Caroline superstar” during an unexpected moment with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, humorously asking her not to leave her current role.
Interestingly, Leavitt’s experience isn’t entirely unique. Other press secretaries, like Jen Psaki and Karine Jean-Pierre from the Biden administration, are also mothers. Kayleigh McEnany, who served as press secretary during Trump’s first term, gave birth shortly before taking office in April 2020, showcasing that motherhood and high-pressure positions can, indeed, coexist.
