Insights from Former Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Trump and Her Career
During a recent Instagram Q&A, former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared her thoughts on her time with President Donald Trump, describing him as both “kind and uplifting.” The 29-year-old, while traveling, tackled various questions from followers, ranging from Trump’s character to her future career plans and her experiences as a mother of two.
When asked about Trump’s demeanor, Leavitt replied, “Yes! He’s the best boss.” She pointed out that the media often overlooks the positive aspects of his personality. “People don’t see this side of him because the media doesn’t show it, but he has been nothing but kind and uplifting to me, even since departing. He’s also hilarious. Love him!” she added.
Leavitt, who worked as press secretary from January 2025 until August 2026, discussed her choice to step back from the White House to focus more on her children. She remarked on the stark difference in her workload, saying, “As Press Sec, I was working in the office 60+ hours a week, traveling the world, and always on call 24/7. Now, I am home with my kids every day and doing some TV hits. These things are not the same, ma’am.”
She also announced that she will officially start her role as a contributor for Fox News Channel next month. “I will be officially joining Fox News as a TV Contributor on November 1st, so I will continue making appearances on various shows!” Leavitt confirmed.
Earlier this month, Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott revealed her upcoming position, noting that Leavitt would provide additional commentary across the network’s various programming. Prior to her role in the White House, she worked in Trump’s first administration as a writer and assistant press secretary and even ran for Congress in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District in 2022.
When a follower asked for advice on entering politics or public relations, Leavitt emphasized the importance of real-world experience. “My advice to people who want to get into politics or comms is to get real-world experience when you’re in college. You’ll learn a lot in the classroom, but it’s the work experience that truly teaches you the ropes,” she said.
She shared that her initial interest in sports reporting led her to intern at NBC Sports Boston before she moved on to local news stations and eventually landed a White House internship. “Just try to apply for internships, say yes to every opportunity that you can and don’t spend your summers hanging out; spend your summers working and gaining that real-world experience, which will help you later in your career,” she advised.
Leavitt, noted for being the youngest White House press secretary, humorously reflected on her busy life as a mom. “I don’t have free time. As a mom of two littles, I’m lucky if I can take a shower in peace. But it’s the season of life I’m in and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!!”
