Details Emerge on Trump’s Reaction to Shooting Incident

Karoline Leavitt, who served as the former White House press secretary, shared insights regarding President Donald Trump’s reaction after a shooting incident occurred at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in April. In a recent episode of “Hang Out with Sean Hannity,” she painted a vivid picture of Trump’s state of mind during that chaotic moment.

Leavitt described him as behaving like a “caged animal,” expressing a strong desire to return to the ballroom shortly after narrowly escaping what appeared to be an assassination attempt. “He was like a caged lion backstage, just roaring to get out, like, ‘We gotta go back out there,’” she recounted. Meanwhile, she hesitated, thinking to herself, “I don’t know if I want to go back out there.”

Minutes into the event at the Washington Hilton, a gunman named Cole Allen from California allegedly burst in armed with weapons. Trump and Vice President JD Vance were quickly evacuated by Secret Service agents.

Allen was apprehended soon after and, reportedly, he had written a manifesto indicating that he aimed to target officials from the Trump administration, but notably spared FBI Director Kash Patel.

The gala, which was supposed to honor White House correspondents, turned into a scene of chaos as guests dove under tables. However, Leavitt mentioned that Trump remained eager to return to the ballroom and was even prepared to wait for hours for the event to continue.

“[Trump] really was asking hard questions of his detail, like, ‘Why can’t I go? I will wait all night. I don’t care if it’s 3 in the morning, get it started,’” she explained. As his impatience grew, officials began making plans to resume the dinner.

Leavitt indicated that Trump was determined to express himself, believing the best platform for that would be the White House briefing room. Later that evening, he held a press conference with key administration members, sharing details about the shooting incident.

Following the event, Trump reignited discussions about his proposal to construct a ballroom at the White House, emphasizing the need for a secure venue for official functions. He eventually attended the rescheduled WHCA Dinner in July.
