Kate Gosselin recently shared the heartbreaking news that she lost her seventh baby during her well-known pregnancy with sextuplets.
In a revealing TikTok video on Wednesday, part of a six-part series discussing her fertility experiences, she described the entire phase as “really, really scary.”
Gosselin, who is now 50, recalled, “We had our first ultrasound at six weeks, and, um, we found out there were seven babies.” She also mentioned uncertainty about when the next appointment would be, stating, “It was either next week or the week after, but I honestly couldn’t remember. In that time, the seventh baby stopped growing.”
However, during this journey, the couple faced a significant challenge as Gosselin dealt with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). This hormonal condition is often a barrier for women trying to conceive without medical help, according to the Mayo Clinic.
“There were other emergencies along the way, beyond just kidney stones,” she explained, adding, “There was an instance with hyperstimulating ovaries.” She felt a wave of panic at one point: “Of course, I thought this might be the start of a miscarriage, and I feared I had lost them all.”
Reflecting on that stressful time, Gosselin described being “on pins and needles” while awaiting the ultrasound results. She recalled feeling a heavy silence in the room, thinking, “This could be it.” When the technician finally said, “I see six,” Gosselin exclaimed, “What do you see?!” Hearing the confirmation of six heartbeats, she felt a surge of determination, saying, “From that moment on, I was fully committed to fighting for them.”
In the comments section, she expressed that if all her babies had been delivered during that high-risk pregnancy, the seventh would have been a girl named Emma.
Gosselin famously gave birth to six babies in 2004: Aden, Alexis, Colin, Hannah, Joel, and Leah. After she and her then-husband, Jon, appeared on the TLC reality show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” they gained considerable fame featuring alongside their newborns and twin daughters, Cara and Mady.
The couple’s marriage ended in divorce in 2009 after ten years together.
