Kate Pearson Lists Her “Lazy Cabin” in Upstate New York

Kate Pearson from the B-52s has put her “Lazy Cabin” up for sale in upstate New York’s woods. With a cozy 1,334 square feet of space, it’s now available for $750,000. Interestingly, it’s only a short five-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Woodstock, making it a pretty appealing spot for art lovers.

Pearson co-founded the B-52s back in 1976 alongside Fred Schneider, Cindy Wilson, Ricky Wilson, and Keith Strickland. They’re best known for their catchy tunes like “Love Shack,” “Private Idaho,” and “Roam,” which embody much of the camping culture and art pop from the ’60s.

At 77 years old, Pearson has infused her three-bedroom sanctuary with the same whimsical charm that fans might expect. The cabin dates back to 1952 and features wooden panels and beamed ceilings adorned with vintage decor and hand-painted murals.

Despite having updated HVAC and two renovated bathrooms, real estate agent Diana Pollack pointed out that the cabin still requires a complete makeover. I suppose some potential buyers might see that as a project, while others—well, could find it a bit daunting.

For those interested in the retro vibe, the kitchen appliances are from the ’50s, and the Native American-inspired murals throughout may not appeal to everyone. It’s definitely a unique style that could be a hit or miss, I think.

Yet, one of the cabin’s real highlights is its generous two-acre plot, accessible via a long circular driveway. And even though it’s surrounded by trees, it’s just around the corner from some great dining options and quirky shops along Woodstock’s Main Street.

Pearson and her wife, artist Monica Coleman, while not living here full-time, still consider the area home. Interestingly, this isn’t their first venture into real estate.

The “Rock Lobster” vocalist and her partner have previously managed several vintage-themed rentals and motels across the country, like “Kate’s Lazy Desert” in Joshua Tree and “Kate’s Lazy Cape” in Cape Cod. They even sold a motel named “Kate’s Lazy Accommodation” near Woodstock, which, admittedly, is a fun name.

Pollack, along with her colleague Jason Nadeau, is handling the listing. She remarked, “It’s a bit of rock history. It’s quaint. Kitsch.” A fitting description, wouldn’t you say?
