Philadelphia Officer Killed in Deadly Ambush
An ambush in West Philadelphia resulted in the tragic death of Officer Shane Seiber, with his partner now hospitalized due to multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect, identified as Eric Lewis—who works for the Philadelphia Water Department—faces over 70 charges, including murder and the homicide of a law enforcement officer. This individual has a significant criminal background that dates back to 2012.
A separate incident also highlights the risks faced by law enforcement. Minnehaha County Deputy Katherine Frank, a 26-year-old from South Dakota, succumbed to injuries after being shot during a confrontation at a home in Sioux Falls. The incident occurred after deputies arrived on the scene, and shortly after gunfire erupted. Frank had been critically injured and spent three days in critical condition before passing away on Monday, surrounded by family.
The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office expressed sorrow over Frank’s loss, emphasizing her dedication, humility, and professionalism in serving the community. Frank’s spirit touched many who had the privilege of working with her.
The suspect involved in Frank’s shooting, 39-year-old Brandon John Oetken, has been charged with several counts, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. He remains in custody without bond, and it’s uncertain whether further charges will be filed following Frank’s death.
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the inquiry into the incident, at the sheriff’s request. Attorney General Marty Jackley honored Frank’s memory, acknowledging her sacrifice in the line of duty and highlighting the courage displayed by all law enforcement officers.
In a touching final act, Deputy Frank became an organ donor, which reflects her spirit of service even in death. The sheriff’s office remarked that her contributions made a substantial difference, ensuring her impact will be felt for years to come.
