Former morning show host Kathie Lee Gifford said she wouldn’t do her old job on the “Today” show now, thanks to people “editing” themselves and what they say.
Gifford appeared on NBC’s “Today with Hoda and Jenna” talk show Tuesday morning, reuniting with her former co-host Hoda Kotb. When Jenna Bush Hager asked if Gifford would ever return to host the show, she was talking about her daughter Cassidy and her upcoming Amazon Prime series The Baxters.
“No,” Gifford replied. “I’ve said it many times, especially when I was with Regis. [Philbin], we speak for 23 minutes straight without notes… no writer or anything. Back then, I didn’t always edit myself. It’s still a humorous issue today. It’s not fun when you have to think about what to say. ”

Gifford also talked about enjoying more “authentic” relationships and lamented that in today’s world, “everyone can put a filter on you.”

“I think God went to great pains to make us all completely unique. He did it with snowflakes, and we made each other look less conventional. You try to make things up, you try to say the same things that other people are saying,” Gifford said.
She added, “If you’re going to live a life, live an authentic life.”

Gifford made similar comments. American weekly magazine Earlier this month, he emphasized that he had no intention of returning to his job as a daytime talk show host.
“In today’s world, in this world where you have to police what you say, I wouldn’t have lasted a day on the show with Regis or the show with Hoda,” Gifford said. “I’ve lived my life without listening to myself.”

Gifford co-hosted “Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee” from 1985 to 2000 and joined Kotb on the “Today” show from 2005 to 2019.
