Katie Couric recently made headlines for her candid comments about Lauren Sanchez’s wedding dress, which is a Dolce & Gabanna design. The occasion was tied to the wedding of Sanchez and billionaire Jeff Bezos, held over the weekend.
Couric’s remark on Instagram, which has since been deleted, was somewhat critical. She likened the dress to the fashion trends of the 1980s, saying, “Welcome to the 80s – when big hair and prominent consumption dominated.” This post was shared by Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of John F. Kennedy, and caught quite a bit of attention.
In her comments, Couric continued, suggesting that “Tacky is back.” It’s unclear what prompted her criticism, and reactions have varied. Schlossberg later chimed in, hinting at his view of the fashion choice with a note about Vogue.
Some folks have speculated that Couric’s comments stem from feelings of exclusion, as one user playfully pointed out, “I don’t think you’re invited, Katie ha ha.” Whatever the reason, her take didn’t go unnoticed.
Meanwhile, Sanchez, 55, and Bezos, 61, shared their vows at a glamorous ceremony on San Giorgio Maggiore, with a guest list that included many high-profile celebrities, from Kim Kardashian to Oprah Winfrey.
In a conversation with Vogue, Sanchez explained that her choice of dress was inspired by the gown worn by Sophia Loren when she married Cary Grant in the 1958 film “Houseboat.” She expressed a desire for a simple yet elegant look, reflecting a more modern take on bridal fashion.
Sanchez said, “I want a simple, sexy modern dress, something that evokes the moment.” She believes her chosen style might surprise some, but for her, it felt very authentic. “It’s a departure from what people expect,” she noted. “But it’s very me.”
