Katie Ledecky dominates to win eighth career Olympics gold medal

Katie Ledecky is one step closer to becoming the most medal-winning female Olympic swimmer of all time.

The American star set an Olympic record in 15 minutes 30.02 seconds to win the 1,500m freestyle final in Paris on Wednesday, joining Jenny Thompson (USA), Dara Torres (USA), Natalie Coughlin (USA) and Emma McKeown (Australia) in winning her 12th Olympic medal overall.

The gold medal was Ledecky’s eighth Olympic medal, tying her with Thompson for the most among female swimmers.

The 27-year-old left the others far behind and was the only person in the camera frame when she crossed the finish line.

Ledecky recently won a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle in Paris.
