Katie Ledecky wins record-breaking 13th Olympic medal in women’s 4x200M freestyle relay

Katie Ledecky is now officially the GOAT of women’s swimming.

The 27-year-old won her 13th Olympic medal in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay, becoming the only woman to reach that milestone.

Ledecky tied Jenny Thompson, Emma McKeon and Dara Torres for gold in the 1,500 meters on Wednesday.

The record was achieved along with a silver medal in the race, helping Australia take home the gold medal and finishing in fifth place, the country’s best swimming result of the tournament.

Ledecky and Michael Phelps are the only swimmers in Olympic history, male or female, to win at least 13 Olympic medals.

Ledecky was the third American to swim. The Americans entered the pool 1.4 seconds behind, but she closed the gap by half a second midway through the swim. By the time Ledecky touched the wall for the last time, the Americans were 0.33 seconds behind.

Erin Gemmell was the anchor for the US, but Ariarne Titmuss of Australia was too strong to handle.
