California’s Democratic candidate for governor, Katie Porter, recently faced scrutiny after a concerning moment during a live interview with a local reporter. This incident isn’t isolated; it adds to her growing public relations challenges.
Old footage from a 2021 interview with Politico has resurfaced, highlighting Porter’s behavior. In the clip, she can be seen reprimanding a staff member for unintentionally appearing in her shot. “Stay away from my shots,” she exclaimed, visibly frustrated.
A staff member attempted to respond, saying the comment was “actually wrong.” However, Porter dismissed the concern, reaffirming her earlier statement. It prompted laughter from the interviewer, who noted this was not an isolated incident.
In a follow-up, another clip showcasing Porter’s temper with staff emerged, raising concerns about her disposition during tense moments. One staffer was seen hurriedly exiting when Porter turned the camera back on, drawing a light-hearted but grim jest from the host regarding her staff’s well-being.
To add more complications, texts from 2022 came to light, where Porter harshly reprimanded a team member for not getting tested for COVID-19. The staffer explained their personal struggles, but Porter remained unsympathetic, leading to their dismissal from the office.
In the exchange, Porter coldly remarked, “Well, you gave me coronavirus,” highlighting her concern over her health rather than showing empathy for her staff’s situation. This tone drew criticism, with observers suggesting the affected employee should consider thanking Porter for their supposed lack of time spent with family instead of receiving support.
Yet, it doesn’t end there. Divorce records indicate that Porter allegedly engaged in verbal abuse toward her ex-husband during their marriage, even reportedly throwing objects at him during disputes.
“This is someone who wants to lead California,” the commentator reflected. “Clearly, they’re not handling things effectively.”
