Katy Perry’s Legal Battle with Carl Westcott Continues

The latest phase of Katy Perry’s ongoing litigation with Carl Westcott is unfolding in court. Westcott’s family, now led by the 85-year-old veteran, expressed a willingness to forgive the pop star for the legal hassle, but they have one key request.

This courtroom drama revolves around a $15 million mansion that Perry and Westcott allege they owe to business manager Bernie Goodwie following its purchase. The contention over this property has turned contentious, leading to a trial where both parties seek damages.

Chart Westcott, Carl’s son, conveyed that a sincere apology from Perry could bridge the divide, even though he seems skeptical that this will happen. The judge has already affirmed Perry as the rightful owner of the Santa Barbara, California property, while Perry pushes back against Westcott’s claims of $3.25 million in damages, stating he couldn’t rent out his home during the legal disputes from September 2020 to March 2024.

In his response, Perry’s legal team suggested he also seeks an additional $2.2 million for necessary repairs, citing significant structural issues and deferred maintenance on the property.

This legal saga began about five years ago when Westcott, suffering from Huntington’s disease, attempted to retract the sale after claiming he was not in the right state of mind when he signed the contract. However, the judge determined he hadn’t provided compelling evidence of mental incapacity during that time.

The court noted that there was enough proof to suggest Westcott willingly engaged in the transaction, describing him as “consistent, engaged, clear and reasonable.” In December 2024, Perry was officially ruled the legitimate owner of the property.

In May 2024, the property deed was transferred to Perry’s LLC, DDOVEB, which is named after her daughter with Orlando Bloom.

In their examination of the damages, Perry’s legal team found structural issues from flood damage and substantial repairs needed on the property, amounting to significant costs. Her lawyer argued that Westcott should not gain from his own poor maintenance while legal proceedings are ongoing.

Chart Westcott recently shared his frustrations regarding the trial, noting the immense strain it puts on the family, particularly on his ailing father. He emphasized that the legal expenses and overall turmoil seem disproportionately burdensome for their family compared to Perry.

While the Westcotts have not held out high hopes for an apology, Chart expressed that it would be a kind gesture. “It would tie a ribbon around the whole thing,” he said during an interview before the trial. He underscored the importance of empathy and compassion in these situations, even mentioning that his family would be present in court throughout the proceedings.

As the trial is expected to last at least five days, it’s anticipated that both Chart and his brothers will testify, while Perry’s legal team has requested her to be present on the first day due to scheduling conflicts with her upcoming performances.

The situation is painful for everyone involved, Chart revealed, hinting at the emotional toll it has taken on the family, especially in light of their father’s health. He shared efforts made to shield his father from the stress of ongoing legal battles.

Chart also noted his curiosity about how Perry’s upbringing as the daughter of strict evangelical ministers might color her actions and responsibilities in this situation.

Overall, Chart expressed some desire to confront Perry directly during the trial, stating he wanted to see how she reconciles her public persona with her private reality, hinting at a deeper emotional exploration of the legal drama.
