Missouri teen Kaylee Gein died on her own two weeks after she was left in a coma after being brutally hit in the head with the pavement multiple times during a disturbing fight with another girl that was caught on video. I’m breathing.
Gane, 16, is in “stable” condition and has been released from the ICU, his family wrote on GoFundMe on Friday.
It is unclear whether she is still in a coma. The newspaper has contacted her family for comment.
“We are truly blessed by the outpouring of support and everyone’s prayers. It means so much to us!” one family member wrote.
The St. Louis teen was fatally assaulted by another student at Spanish Lakes on March 8. Her name has not been released because she is a minor.
Gane suffered a skull fracture and frontal lobe damage in the brawl near Hazelwood East High School, which was caught on camera.
Her classmates repeatedly slammed her head against the ground, causing life-threatening brain swelling and bleeding.
“The full scope and scope of Kaylee’s injuries and prognosis for her recovery cannot be determined until, by the grace of God, she regains consciousness. The family asks that you keep Kaylee in your thoughts and prayers as she continues to recover. ” the Gein family said. Attorney Brian Kemmerer said in a statement Monday.
Gein’s 15-year-old classmate was taken into custody and charged with assault.
Her family defended the honors student, who claimed she had been “harassed and bullied” before the assault.
The girl’s aunt told the Daily Mail she had been defending herself and implored the juvenile court to show “compassion” to the boy.
The Change.org petition also highlights that the girl speaks four languages, plays the violin, is on the school’s volleyball team, and recently started college-level AP classes.
“She had never been in trouble until the March 8 incident when she was seen defending herself from harassment and bullying,” the post said. She said: “Her work as an academic was tainted by the bullying she had to endure at school.”
After the game, the teenager’s school released a statement.
“It’s always a tragedy when children are hurt. Bullying and fighting in our communities is an issue that we all need to take ownership of and work towards solving for the sake of our children.
“The Hazelwood School District extends our deepest condolences to everyone involved and will provide additional emotional support from our Outreach and Crisis Management team to those in need.”
