McEnany and Half Debate Biden’s Mental Fitness
Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany recently challenged former Obama administration official Marie Half regarding President Joe Biden’s mental fitness to perform his presidential duties. This confrontation aired on Friday, with McEnany questioning Biden’s assertion that he is “above” Fox News.
In light of some new books, particularly “Original Sin” by CNN’s Jake Tupper and Axios’s Alex Thompson, which delve into Biden’s health and cognitive decline, Half expressed her belief that Biden should not seek re-election. However, she also contested claims about his declining mental abilities. Half noted that discussions about Biden typically revolve around his physical health, which appears to be deteriorating, yet she asserted that mental health issues aren’t as clear-cut.
Responding to calls for evidence regarding Biden’s ability to carry out his role, Half stated, “I’ve never seen evidence from a doctor that Joe Biden is incapable of doing his job mentally.” She seemed to suggest that the arguments presented were not entirely convincing.
The conversation touched upon Biden’s apparent freezing during an event on June 27, which led to a dialogue about the nature of such incidents. Half maintained that these are not necessarily indicators of mental incapacity, citing concerns about patient confidentiality if doctors were subpoenaed for such claims. The debate continued as McEnany pressed for clarity on Trump’s health versus Biden’s.
When McEnany inquired whether Half considered Trump to be healthy, Half admitted she wasn’t certain of Trump’s health but raised the issue of Biden’s verbal gaffes and moments of confusion on television. “It seems like there’s a lot of overlap in those kinds of situations,” McEnany suggested, pushing back against the notion that only Biden is facing scrutiny over mental acuity.
Ultimately, their back-and-forth revealed broader anxieties about party loyalty and public perception, with McEnany asserting that many in the Democratic Party are reluctant to support Biden’s re-election.
In a related note, comedian Andrew Schultz pointed out that many Americans have lost trust in Democrats as they observe Biden’s health issues heading into 2024.
