After US military support for Ukraine collapsed last week, more than a dozen world leaders will gather in London today to discuss a joint defense and security plan as US military support for Ukraine falls on a balance.
European leaders are seeking security guarantees, such as air coverings from Washington, as part of a so-called peace deal to end Russian wars in Ukraine.
The continent is ready to face a threat from Russia without the usual security net of US support, as Kiel's Starmer, who announced the biggest increase in defence spending since the end of last week's Cold War, is trying to persuade other European countries to increase their defense capabilities and spending more.
Starmer will soon appear on the BBC Sunday in the Laura Kuenssberg programme starting at 9am, along with opposition leader Kemi Badenoch.
