Keith Hernandez shares his expectations for a new SNY agreement

Keith Hernandez is hoping to continue his tenure at SNY for years to come.

The legendary Mets analyst, who has spent two decades in the booth with Gary Cohen and Ron Darling, is currently without a contract.

“We haven’t begun negotiations yet, but we plan to,” Hernandez shared during a podcast with The Post’s Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman. “Retirement isn’t on my radar just yet. If I sign a three-year deal, I’d be 75 when it ends. Sure, I just turned 72, but I’m all in for another three years.”

This is encouraging for fans of the booth, which many regard as top-notch in the industry.

Hernandez joined SNY in 2006 after previously working on Mets broadcasts for MSG, earning three Emmy Awards in the process (2009, 2012, 2015).

His diverse insights, focus on engaging with fans, and willingness to discuss off-field matters have gained him devoted supporters over the years.

His influence in pop culture, especially thanks to “Seinfeld,” has further solidified his status among baseball enthusiasts.

The San Francisco native had a prolific 17-season career in the majors, including ten years with the Cardinals before being traded to the Mets in 1983. A standout first baseman, he boasts 11 Gold Gloves, two Silver Sluggers, and five All-Star selections. He was also named the 1979 National League MVP and contributed to the iconic 1986 World Series-winning team.

If Hernandez returns to the SNY booth, he also has thoughts about the Mets’ direction. “This team is enjoyable to watch. I’m curious to see what roster changes occur in the offseason,” he noted. “It’ll be interesting to watch their moves. I anticipate some trades as well. Acquiring a top starter is crucial, but finding one? That’s the big question. For someone like [Tarik] Skubal, it won’t come cheap. To me, pitching is the key to success.”
