Keith Olbermann Criticizes Ex-ESPN Colleague Linda Cohn for Her Auston Matthews Remark

Keith Olbermann has criticized Linda Cohn, a former coworker at ESPN, for her endorsement of Auston Matthews, the Olympian on the U.S. hockey team.

Cohn took to her X account to express backlash towards Canadian critics on Thursday. According to the Toronto Star, Auston Matthews, who captains the Toronto Maple Leafs and hails from California, aimed harsh words at President Trump’s visit to Washington, D.C. for the State of the Union address and a White House celebration of Team USA’s gold medal win. The paper absurdly suggested that Matthews was prioritizing Trump over the Leafs.

Additionally, the Star pointed out that they were not alone in their critique. The Globe and Mail also scorned Team USA’s hockey players, specifically Auston Matthews and Connor Hellebuyck, accusing them of behaving like “monkeys” for politicians during Trump’s address.

In a harsh response, Olbermann targeted Cohn’s stance on Matthews, saying it reflected ignorance about Team USA. The New York Post shared the details of his critique.

“Seriously? If this is how Leafs fans are feeling, I’d tell Matthews to take charge of his career and go where he’s valued,” Cohn remarked, commenting on the situation.

She added, “Be better. I hope I’m not speaking for all Leafs fans,” in a follow-up post.

However, Olbermann, known for his fiery personality, didn’t hold back. He unleashed his feelings, suggesting that Cohn’s patriotism and common sense had failed her.

In a biting X reply, he said, “I hate to break it to you, Linda Cohn, but while I’d like to implore you to improve, it seems impossible.” His response escalated into a personal attack, branding her as a “self-obsessed, politically motivated clown” who views her views as sacred while suppressing others.

His tirade concluded with, “We’ve spoiled you for far too long. That’s over.”

Linda Cohn continues to be a significant figure at ESPN, while Olbermann has faced repeated dismissals from various networks throughout his career. Now, he spends his time airing extreme and hostile views on X. On a separate note, Matthews possesses something Olbermann never will: an Olympic gold medal. It’s left to the public to ponder which of the two holds more significance.
