Kelly Clarkson moved to LA with a ‘random person’ to audition for ‘American Idol’

Kelly Clarkson's road to fame wasn't an easy one.

On Wednesday's episode of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer revealed that she moved from Texas to Los Angeles with a “random person” to pursue a music career.

“Actually, I moved to Los Angeles with a stranger,” she told guest Kevin Bacon.

“Yeah, she just needed a roommate. I was like, 'I'll do it,' and I moved from Texas to Los Angeles with a stranger,” Kelly replied.

The “Footloose” star asked Clarkson how long she's been living with the stranger. Kelly explained that his roommate's situation didn't last long because the apartment burned down.

“It burned down, yes,” Clarkson said. “Then I slept in my car for a few days, then I tried out for a show called ‘American Idol,’ and everything went well.”

In 1976, Bacon's apartment budget was $150 a month. At the time, he found the property through a newspaper ad, but when he looked at the building, there was a vacant two-bedroom apartment, which was out of his price range.
