Ken Buck says he’s ‘happy to move on’ after leaving Congress

Former Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), who served his final day in the House on Friday, said in an interview Sunday that he has no regrets about leaving the House before his term ends.

In a roundtable on ABC News’ “This Week,” Jonathan Karl said that back on the same day that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) introduced a motion threatening to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson from office, He referred to the timing of his departure from the House of Commons. From a post by (R-Rabada).

“You left Congress as of Friday and everything was calming down. I don’t think that caused you to reconsider your decision,” Karl asked.

“Not at all. Not at all,” Buck replied. “There’s no rearview mirror. I’m happy to move on.”

“It’s a dysfunctional place,” Buck added, referring to Congress.

Buck said the House Republican conference has spent time focusing on messaging bills rather than addressing serious issues, and accused his colleagues of having a hard time “setting priorities.”

“Since the beginning of this Congress, there have been moves to impeach the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the President, the Attorney General, the Director of the FBI, and the Secretary of Homeland Security,” Buck said. Ta.

Mr. Buck suggested that these efforts point to “serious problems with priority setting.”

“We have a very tragic situation in Ukraine. We have skyrocketing debt, all sorts of uncontrollable problems, and we are focusing on bills that will not get us anywhere.” he said.

Mr. Bach has long been one of the most conservative members of Congress, but during his more than nine years in office he has demonstrated an independent stance and a willingness to vote against the party’s official position when he disagrees with it.

Over the past year, Mr. Buck’s term has been marked by his criticism of Republican election denialism and his willingness to break away from the party on key votes.

For example, Buck was one of eight Republicans to join other members of the Freedom Caucus and vote to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the top job.

He was also one of three Republicans who opposed the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, but the first attempt to oust a cabinet member hamstrung by impeachment failed, embarrassing the Republican conference. dealt a blow.
