Kendrick Brothers Announce New Film Project
Filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick, known for faith-based films like War Room and Forge, are venturing into new territory with their latest project. Recently, they shared on social media that this upcoming film will be a remake of their 2003 movie Flywheel, but interestingly, it will be shot in Portuguese.
Flywheel centered around a used car salesman whose dishonest practices catch up with him until he finds a newfound faith in Christ, guiding him toward integrity. It marked the brothers’ first film before they made hits like Facing the Giants and Fireproof.
The film is being shot in the picturesque setting of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“We’ve been praying about this for a while,” Alex Kendrick shared in a video filmed on the streets of Rio. “I’m really excited to work with this team.”
However, the remake won’t carry the exact title Flywheel. “We’re updating a lot; the quality is improving,” Alex explained, adding that while the title may vary, the cultural influence of Rio de Janeiro remains central.
“We haven’t secured any funding yet. We still need to choose a filming location,” Stephen mentioned. “Casting hasn’t happened yet, and we don’t even have a complete crew. But we’re here, walking by faith.”
“We’ll do what we can,” Alex added. “Please feel free to pray for us.”
The Kendrick brothers didn’t delve into many specifics about their latest project, but shooting in Brazil—especially in Portuguese—is expected to help reach audiences in ways that English-language productions may not. Brazil is known for being receptive to the gospel, and data shows it’s one of the top countries for ministry engagement.
In a follow-up video, the Kendrick brothers provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse, introducing crew members, including the producers and camera teams involved in this feature film.
The Kendrick brothers have created some of the most popular faith-based films in contemporary entertainment, including War Room, Courageous, Fireproof, and the recent Forge. Notably, War Room earned the top spot in box office rankings, beating out many high-budget Hollywood films.
