Kentucky Cheerleader's Roommates Discovered Baby in Closet After Hearing Her Give Birth

A University of Kentucky cheerleader, Laken Snelling, was discovered in a concerning situation by her roommate. After hearing about Snelling’s pregnancy, the roommate allegedly found a deceased newborn in a closet, wrapped in a black plastic bag, during a trip to McDonald’s.

The roommate, suspicious about Snelling hiding her pregnancy, reported hearing noises around 4 a.m. when Snelling gave birth to a boy in their off-campus house in Lexington. Lex18 claims reporting this.

Snelling later explained to her roommate that the commotion was due to her collapsing from an illness. According to the New York Post, court documents state that Snelling then left to pick up McDonald’s, missing a 9:30 a.m. class. While she was away, her roommate found a bloody towel on the floor and a plastic bag that indicated childbirth, as claimed in an affidavit.

Reports indicate that the roommate found the baby inside the bag in the closet and called 911, telling the dispatcher that the newborn was “cold to the touch.”

When Snelling returned, police were already there waiting for her.

Snelling has pleaded not guilty to charges related to corpse abuse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of a child.

Initially, she told the authorities that her baby had fallen to the floor after delivery, but she thought he wasn’t “breathing or alive,” according to the affidavit. She later mentioned passing out “on the baby” and waking up to find a note indicating he was turning blue and purple.

Snelling acknowledged lying next to the baby, providing some comfort, as described in court documents.

Officials stated that Snelling had been hiding the baby in the closet and was cleaning up the aftermath of childbirth in the shower.

As the investigation progressed, authorities found that Snelling had informed medical staff that the baby had shown “some fetal movement” and that she heard a “whisper” following his birth, as recorded in court documents.

She also allegedly took photos during the birth but later deleted them, attempting to cover up the situation, according to reports from authorities.

Following her arrest, Snelling has reportedly withdrawn from local schools in Lexington and is no longer part of the stunt team, the Post reported.
