Kentucky stuns LSU with back-to-back walk-off two-point conversion victory in overtime

Kentucky Wildcats Pull Off Another Overtime Win

You’d think it might be tough to beat the excitement of winning a game by risking it all on a two-point conversion in overtime, like the Kentucky Wildcats did just last week against South Carolina. But, surprisingly, they did just that, this time against the No. 10 LSU Tigers.

The Wildcats pulled off a stunning victory, defeating LSU 35-34 in overtime.

Throughout the game, both teams exchanged scoring drives, with quarterbacks Sam Leavitt from LSU and Kentucky’s Kenny Minchy each putting on impressive performances, throwing for 275 and 246 yards, respectively. By the time regulation ended, the score was tied at 27-27, and LSU got the ball first in overtime.

Leavitt launched the drive with a 10-yard pass and followed it with a 15-yard touchdown run, putting LSU ahead. After that, Coach Lane Kiffin opted for a kick, and Scott Starzyk added an extra point, granting LSU a seven-point lead.

This scenario mirrored Kentucky’s previous game against the Gamecocks, where they too found themselves in a similar position: giving up a touchdown and then responding with a score of their own and secured the win through a two-point conversion.

But this time, running back CJ Baxter scored with a 1-yard run, and, keeping with the risky theme, Kentucky’s coach Will Stein decided to keep the offense on the field for the two-point conversion attempt. It got a bit tense—Kiffin called a timeout, and then Stein did the same just in time to avert what looked like a clear false start on his team.

When they finally executed the play, LSU seemed to anticipate a pass, which granted Minchy the opening he needed to cross into the end zone for the victory.

What a dramatic finish… again!

This win marked a notable achievement for the Wildcats, making them the first team in FBS history to triumph in back-to-back overtime games by a single point. Perhaps Stein should consider trying his luck at the roulette table, given how his bold decisions have panned out.

A significant statement for the Wildcats, while it’s a tough loss for LSU, who have now faced two defeats this season.
