Kesha Shares Unique Keepsake on Podcast
Kesha recently disclosed an eye-catching personal detail: she carries a piece of her placenta with her everywhere. During her appearance on the May 6 episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast hosted by Alex Cooper, the singer explained that her mother had preserved the placenta after her birth, believing it possesses spiritual benefits.
“Your placenta supposedly gives you second sight, helps open your third eye,” Kesha, who is 39 years old, shared during the chat. “This is according to my mother. She dried it out, put it in a box, and found it when I was around 21, down in the basement.”
She elaborated on the extent her mother went to in order to keep this unusual memento. “She had to fight for my placenta,” Kesha recalled, noting that there was some tension at the hospital when her mother insisted on keeping it. “They tried to take it away, and she had a huge fit—she really fought for it,” Kesha said, adding that’s how she ended up carrying it with her today.
Kesha then humorously described the odd process involved in preserving it: “She dried it in the oven, wrapped it up, put it in the basement—then we found it, threw it in a blender, popped it into a necklace!”
When asked about her motivation for keeping the placenta, Kesha explained her affinity for rituals. “I love a good ritual. I feel like I’m a cult leader or something… it’s a way to connect with this more mystical side of life. Down here on Earth? Kind of bland,” she admitted. “But when I engage with my spirit guides and everything, it feels magical.”
The placenta itself was encased in a heart-shaped pendant on a long chain, which is not her only peculiar keepsake. She mentioned another hobby: collecting both human and animal teeth to create art and jewelry. “It gives me a little piece of the people I care about,” she expressed, revealing that fans even send her teeth. “My cats had their wisdom teeth removed; I collected those too. I guess you could call me the tooth fairy,” she said, with a hint of amusement.
Kesha also mentioned she’s working on a coffee table that will feature a bowl of the collected teeth, encouraging people to contribute to her collection. It certainly sounds like she has a unique way of remembering those she cherishes.
