Kevin Costner Emphasizes Fatherhood
Kevin Costner, the 70-year-old actor known for his role in “Yellowstone,” has shared that being a father is the most significant role he has played in his life. With seven children spanning from teenagers to adults, he reflects on how his experiences have provided him invaluable lessons about parenting and how to express love uniquely for each child.
“You love them all the same, but they are all different,” he explained. “You’ll find a way to do it without treating them all the same. You have to consider their differences.”
Costner has three older children—Joe, 41, Lily, 38, and another child aged 37—with ex-wife Cindy Silva. He shares his son Liam, 28, with former girlfriend Bridget Rooney. The family also includes 18-year-old Kaden, 16-year-old Hayes, and 14-year-old Grace, with Christine Baumgartner.
He admits that juggling family time with a busy schedule is challenging. “It’s quite difficult,” he said, noting that all of his children are on their own paths in life. “I’m trying to gather them all together, but it’s not easy. It’s everywhere now.”
Despite the challenges of scheduling, Costner feels that creating a welcoming family environment is crucial. “You try to provide them a place they want to come back to,” he remarked. “I always design for my home and for my kids and their kids—so that they can enjoy coming back.”
Recently, his family celebrated a significant milestone: the graduation of his son Caden. Costner mentioned that all his children were present for this special occasion. “We’re all really proud of him,” he shared, adding, “This is one of the things that marked his life, and he made it beautiful.”
When discussing parenting, he conveyed his approach isn’t so much about providing advice, but rather showing how he does his job seriously. “I was often on the wrong end of the bell curve,” he said about his school experience. “There was too much math and not enough history. So, I felt a bit out of place.” He hopes his children can find paths that they enjoy without letting economics dictate their choices.
