Kevin Costner shuts down ‘therapy’ questions about his ego

Kevin Costner has denied questions surrounding his return to “Yellowstone” and allegations that he may have demanded it in order for the show to continue.

Costner spoke with “CBS Mornings” host Gayle King, who tried to dig deeper into Costner’s psyche and why there are no plans to make a sequel to the hit show.

The actor told King that he “loved the show before anyone else,” and his feelings about the show haven’t changed.

“The truth never changes. That love was so strong. The idea of going back, if I felt like it was something I could do, something I wanted to do, something I could achieve, I would do it in a heartbeat.”

But the 69-year-old host was adamant about finding out what the issues were between Costner and “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, who writes, directs and produces the show.

King suggested the two were engaged in a race of egos, at one point asking, “Who’s bigger, Kevin?”

“I have no choice. My children are looking at me and I can’t stay cowering like a daisy. I have to move forward.”

King then relayed his allegations to Costner that he was difficult to work with and that he had a series of demands that had to be met in order for further episodes of the show to be filmed.

“Your characterization is not necessarily flattering. You make demands, you want a certain schedule, you want to film at certain times, you want a certain amount of money,” she said. Listed“If it’s not that hard, why can’t you two just work it out? People would be happy to see it,” she continued.

Costner was not keen to reveal his feelings to the host.

“This is not therapy, Gail. I’m being honest with you, we’re not going to discuss this on the show.”

“I’m a good therapist,” King jokingly replied. Costner wasn’t too amused by the accusation.

“I’ve lived a pretty straightforward life. I’ve never shirked any obligations in my career so far. So for me the ideas are limitless. It’s just a matter of whether I can fall in love with the script or the role that I want to play moving forward.”

Costner is video In late June 2024, he said he would not be able to continue with the show because “something has really changed.”

“I will not be returning,” he added in the announcement.

King moved from one sensitive topic to another, reflecting on Costner and Christine Baumgartner’s divorce after 20 years of marriage.

“You’ve been through a very public divorce and I’m curious how you’re doing in your head and your heart,” King asked.

Costner remained very serious and forthright in his answers.

“It was a devastating moment. It was very painful and difficult but I moved on. I have no choice. My children are looking to me so I can’t shrink like a daisy. I have to move on. I have to continue to be who I am and keep having that special eye on my children,” he explained.

Costner just finished production on “Horizon: An American Saga,” in which he co-stars with his teenage son Hayes, and the Western star called the opportunity to work with his son “a dream come true.”
