Kevin Durant ignores Lionel Messi and Argentine soccer players at Fanatics Fest

Kevin Durant’s Awkward Moment at Fanatics Fest

At Fanatics Fest in New York on Friday, Kevin Durant, the former Warriors star and two-time NBA Finals MVP, found himself in an awkward situation.

He walked on stage for a Q&A session alongside the Argentine soccer team, making his way past notable figures including superstar Lionel Messi and former NFL star Tom Brady.

After Brady finished his interactions with Messi, it was Durant’s turn to take the stage.

He entered with a grin, walked behind the Argentina team, and took a microphone from Brady. He exchanged greetings with other guests, such as comedian Kevin Hart and Spain’s national coach Luis de la Fuente.

When Durant took the mic, he pointed at Argentine goalkeeper Emi Martínez, saying, “Here it is,” which caught Martínez off guard.

Continuing, Durant addressed Martínez directly, confirming, “Yes, it’s you.” Surprised, Martínez responded by discussing the significance of winning consecutive World Cups for his country and team.

“That’s the hardest question anyone’s ever asked me,” he admitted. “I’m just proud to have made it to the 2022 World Cup final. It means a lot to me and to Argentina.” He emphasized how special it was to see fans celebrating at 2 a.m., noting the unique passion they demonstrated.

Martínez expressed pride in his country and praised the hard work of his coaches and teammates. He concluded with optimism, affirming their commitment to bringing two World Cups home and sharing the joy with their supporters.

The Q&A session between Argentina and Spain occurred just days ahead of their World Cup final match in New Jersey this Sunday.

Argentina strives to be the first team to secure back-to-back titles since Brazil accomplished the feat in 1958 and 1962. On the flip side, Spain is looking for their first World Cup win since 2010, now guided by coach de la Fuente.
