NBC has revealed that Michael Jordan will join them as a special contributor for their NBA coverage, kicking off with the 2025-2026 season.
Kevin Harlan, a veteran sports broadcaster, recently had a chat with Jordan at the desk to discuss what fans can look forward to.
“When we think about the greatest players who’ve graced the game, it’s always a deeper understanding, you know,” he shared.
Harlan emphasizes the value of personal stories over mere statistics. For instance, he wants Jordan to recount experiences like his legendary showdown with Reggie Miller or his preparations leading into critical games.
He stated, “We all have the same data. But I’m keen to hear Jordan share something new.”
Harlan also recalled an interview with the late Kobe Bryant, noting how insightful Kobe was. He hopes that Jordan will provide similar depth. “It’d be intriguing to hear Jordan reflect on things like footwork and preparation, the nuances of playing,” he added.
Michael Jordan joins NBC as a “special contributor” to NBA coverage
Harlan expressed hope that Jordan could bring fans a behind-the-scenes perspective.
“There’s a slew of stories from various hosts and analysts. However, we only have one Michael Jordan and one Kobe Bryant. Hearing them discuss their unique insights is rare and valuable,” he mentioned.
He continued, “Instead of covering numerous angles, let’s focus on one or two insights that really pull back the curtain on their experiences.”
NBC previously held the NBA rights from 1990 to 2002, coinciding with some of Jordan’s most iconic years. After a lengthy gap, the NBA is set to return to NBC with an 11-year contract starting in October.
In a video message, Jordan expressed his enthusiasm for the NBA’s return to NBC, saying, “The NBA on NBC is a significant chapter in my career, and I’m thrilled to contribute. I can’t wait to connect with everyone when the season starts this October.”
Since retiring, Jordan hasn’t been affiliated with any network, though he appeared in the 2020 ESPN documentary “The Last Dance.”
