Max Homa performed well in his Presidents Cup singles match against Mackenzie Hughes. eagle hole out The first par 4 with 102 yards remaining. He quickly took a 1-up lead.
Homa quickly gained momentum against Anchor. But the golf world doesn't believe his and assistant captain Kevin Kisner's bet will come to fruition.
It all started at the Solheim Cup when Kisner responded to Homa on “X” by saying, “If I was going to play hoops, I'd take my shirt off this week at Royal Montreal.” The bet resurfaced in the days leading up to the Presidents Cup, but Kisner went along with it nonetheless.
Homa sealed the deal with an incredible shot on the first hole. He was all about work and didn't even celebrate.
But the stakes weren't forgotten by the crowd and fans, including NBC's on-course reporter Smiley Kaufman, who caught up with Kisner after Homa's big moment.
“Motivation is a great thing, and I think Max really took that to heart,” Kisner told Kaufman.
“I was with him for two games and we didn't make it one game. I went to see his first tee and he played hoops. Since I didn't see him, he hasn't been successful in one game. I think I was yelling at every captain I met, asking, “Where's the scratch?'' So I'm hiding here on the back nine. ”
Perhaps Kisner will “take off the tarp” at the afterparty.
Nevertheless, given that Homa and Brian Herman were 0-2-0 in the foursome's two games, Kisner probably thought he would walk away from this bet. But Homa will be back on Sunday, and the golf world is waiting to see if Kisner will pay the fee.
But Homa's games weren't terrible in the last two games. According to , the 33-year-old gained 2.98 strokes on approach to the green and 3.64 strokes from tee to green. data golf.
U.S. captain Jim Furyk likely kept the two apart thanks to his success in Rome at the 2023 Ryder Cup. Both sides were tied at 2-1-0.
The duo defeated Shane Lawrie and Sepp Straka 4&2 in the only foursomes match on Saturday morning, followed by a 2&1 win over Tommy Fleetwood and Nikolai Hujgaard in the afternoon.
Unfortunately, their shine faded in Rome. I never followed them to Canada.
Either way, Homa is off to a hot start in singles competition, looking to score at least one point for Team USA. He also pursues Kisner, who is trying to avoid the meeting at all costs.
