McCarthy Warns Democrats About Funding Homeland Security
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) recently raised concerns about the FBI’s counterterrorism team being on high alert, cautioning that Democrats’ underfunding of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) could have dire consequences for national security.
“If there’s any attack in the United States, it will be the Democratic Party’s fault for not funding DHS at this critical time. They’ve allowed borders to remain open during this period,” McCarthy expressed during the Sunday Briefing.
He added, “If I were a Democrat—and I don’t usually offer them advice, but this is crucial for America’s security—I would head back to Washington right now to fund DHS.”
These remarks came as U.S. counterterrorism agencies were discreetly monitoring potential sleeper cells on domestic soil following a U.S.-Israel operation, which resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials.
This bold action has drawn threats of retaliation from America’s adversaries and prompted warnings from security experts, including former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker. He indicated that now might be a pivotal moment for groups like Hezbollah or Hamas to act violently within the U.S.
In a separate incident, the FBI is exploring a mass shooting in Austin, Texas, which occurred early Sunday morning, leaving three dead, including the shooter, and injuring 14 others as a potential act of terrorism.
McCarthy criticized the stalled funding for DHS while also voicing disapproval of Democrats’ attempts to push a vote on the War Powers Resolution, labeling it as a “very foolish strategy.”
He noted, “This is the Democratic Party. They first voted to fund DHS and then against the same bill that would keep it running. Consequently, the Coast Guard isn’t funded. Neither are the Secret Service nor TSA.”
McCarthy urged Democrats to take action, stating they need to “do their jobs” and ensure the safety of Americans at home.
