The situation in Cleveland continues to be chaotic.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski accidentally equipped rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the incorrect wristband at the game’s start, which contributed to a dismal 31-3 defeat against the Bears.
During the opening moments, Cleveland struggled with too many players on the field. They had a false start on their first drive and a delay of game on the second, forcing Sanders to dash to the sideline for instructions from Stefanski.
To make matters worse, the Browns didn’t manage a single first down in the first quarter, quickly falling behind 14-0.
As the second quarter began, game broadcaster Allison Williams noted that Sanders required a new wristband.
Post-game, Stefanski admitted there was indeed a miscommunication regarding the wristband. “Yes, there was a communication error earlier,” he stated, uncertain if the issue stemmed from the wristband itself.
Though Sanders didn’t place blame on his coach, he provided some details on the peculiar incident. “The card just came off. It just came off on the sideline. That was it,” he explained.
Ultimately, Sanders finished the game with the Browns now at 3-11, completing 18 of 35 passes for 177 yards, with no touchdowns and three interceptions.
Sanders had recently been named the starter for the remainder of the season after a previous game where he threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns, despite losing 31-29 to the Titans.
“I still have the same belief in myself,” Sanders remarked. “Every week is a chance to learn and improve. That’s the goal,” he added, looking ahead to their challenging matchup against the Bills next week.
