According to a report on Wednesday, Democratic donors have decided to back out of a significant fundraising event with former Vice President Kamala Harris, with some even sending “profane rejections.”
As highlighted by the Wall Street Journal, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is facing challenges in raising funds during President Trump’s second term. Despite efforts to engage major donors through a fundraiser in San Francisco earlier this year, most were not on board. People familiar with the discussions indicated that one individual even replied with a vulgar rejection.
Some donors expressed hesitance in contributing until the party offers a solid strategy for winning future elections. Those who chose not to participate communicated their inability to fulfill prior promises to the National Party.
The DNC was eventually able to find a host for the event, but the fundraising outcomes fell short of expectations. There’s a sense that the reaction from donors may stem from dissatisfaction over Harris’s unsuccessful presidential run and a lack of a clear operational strategy going forward.
A national Democratic group official pointed out that some donors remain frustrated over how outside organizations handled their finances in last year’s election, particularly regarding the perceived overpayment to consultants in Washington, D.C. The official noted that, disappointingly, the party hasn’t yet conducted a public review to understand what went wrong in the 2024 elections.
Rachel Pritzker, president of the Third Way think tank, remarked to the Wall Street Journal that it’s surprising how little reevaluation of the party and its leadership has occurred.
Still, some donors, like Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger, seem more focused on state-level races and have a more optimistic outlook about the party’s potential moving forward.
As per the Wall Street Journal, the DNC’s current cash reserves stand at around $12 million, a stark contrast to the $86 million held by the Republican National Committee. Some observers interpret this as a sign that the minority party is struggling to garner funds, while others point to a widening divide between progressive and establishment factions within the party.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the DNC for further comments.
