California’s Elite Edge Rushers
California is certainly blessed when it comes to standout edge rushers.
All three of the state’s NFL teams boast top-tier talent: Myles Garrett representing the Rams, Khalil Mack for the Chargers, and Nick Bosa playing for the 49ers.
There’s likely some rivalry among these players, yet Mack still showed respect for Bosa during a recent chat with fellow former NFL players Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr.
At one point, Mack was asked to choose between Bosa and Browns defensive end Jared Verse.
“I’ll take Nick on this one,” he replied.
Next up was the comparison between Bosa and Brian Burns, an outside linebacker with the Giants.
“I lean toward Nick on that one,” Mack said.
Then, the conversation shifted to a choice between Bosa and Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons.
“I gotta lean toward Nick on that one again,” was Mack’s response.
The next comparison involved Bosa and Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.
“I’mma take Nick,” he declared.
Mack’s praise for Bosa culminated when he had to choose between Bosa and the iconic Von Miller. Without hesitation, he said, “Oh, Von.”
While Bosa might not have been Mack’s very last pick, the Chargers’ star consistently favored him over several other talented players.
It’s worth pondering how Mack would have decided between Bosa and Garrett, though. After all, Garrett just wrapped up a season that many consider to be one of the best for an edge rusher. Perhaps it’s just as well that question didn’t come up.
