Khanna believes manufacturing 'isn’t going to come here' due to Trump's tariffs

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) believes manufacturing will not “come” to the United States despite the Trump administration placing tariffs on the country.

Kanna, a representative of Silicon Valley, joined CBS News’ Face the Nation on Sunday, where he said he didn’t think technology production would come to the US and instead would go to a low tariff location.

“Suppose you suddenly put tariffs on China, meaning production will move to other parts of Asia. We won’t come here unless we fund their factories here.

Kanna claimed that businesses and production would be separated from China, and President Trump put a 125% tariff but instead went to India, Malaysia or Vietnam.

“If you want to bring manufacturing back to the US, you need to invest in the workforce, you need an investment tax credit for your facility, you need to be able to buy what you make in the US,” he said.

Kanna pointed to a recently released CBS News poll. This has discovered that most Americans believe Trump’s tariff plans will benefit the wealthy and large corporations most.

In the survey, 74% of respondents believe Trump’s tariffs will benefit the wealthy, while 71% say it will help large businesses.

“I’ve seen the vote before. This is not a hypothesis. This is not something the president can spin,” Kanna said. “We’re going to see if a new factory comes or not, and the tariffs aren’t going to do that.”
