Owners of about 463,000 Kia vehicles in the United States will need to park their vehicles outdoors, away from buildings, until recall repairs for fire hazards are completed.
The South Korean automaker said Friday it is recalling its 2020 to 2024 model year Telluride SUVs because of a fire risk caused by overheating front power seat motors.
Kia said it had received one report of a fire under a seat and six reports of a melted seat motor, including complaints of smoke coming from the seat area and a burning smell, but no crashes or injuries had been reported.

“Owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors, away from buildings, until recall repairs are completed,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement.
Your Kia dealer will fix this problem by installing a bracket for a power seat switchback cover and replacing the seat slide knob.
“A stuck power seat slide knob could cause the front power seat motor to overheat and potentially start a fire while the vehicle is parked or driving,” NHTSA said.
Kia will begin notifying owners about the recall starting July 30th.
