Rock the Country Festival Canceled in South Carolina
The music festival led by Kid Rock, known as Rock the Country, has officially scrapped its South Carolina event after several prominent artists opted out of the show due to its political undertones.
Originally planned for July at the Anderson Sports & Entertainment Center, the two-night festival aimed to feature major acts like rock bands Creed and Shinedown, along with country star Brantley Gilbert and rapper Ludacris, who has won three Grammy Awards.
Other performers including Gretchen Wilson, Morgan Wade, Lakeview, Parmalee, Chase Mathews, and Fox & Veed were also on the bill.
Anderson County officials received notification of the festival’s cancellation on Thursday from County Administrator Lousie Burns. While organizers didn’t provide specific reasons for the decision, reports indicated that at least one band raised concerns regarding the political nature of the event.
The cancellation is a loss financially for Anderson County, which was anticipating a boost from the festival. They are also working on securing artists for an unrelated concert planned for April.
Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, launched this annual festival in 2024, promoting it as a significant multi-state celebration coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States.
This year’s festivities were set to run from May until September 11th and 12th, culminating in a final show in Hamburg, New York.
Described as more than just a music event, Rock the Country aims to foster a sense of community and celebrate American tradition, highlighting the connections formed during gatherings under open skies.
Shinedown, who were slated as a top act, had already declared their withdrawal from the lineup. In a statement, the band expressed their commitment to uniting rather than dividing audiences through music, leading them to step away from the festival.
They acknowledged that their decision might be controversial but emphasized their desire to avoid contributing to any further division.
Notably, they were the fourth act to depart the festival. Additionally, Ludacris, Morgan Wade, and country singer Carter Faith had also withdrawn from the concert prior to the cancellation, as reported.
Ludacris, one of the headliners, mentioned a “mix-up” following the festival’s announcement.
