Turning Point USA’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Receives Mixed Reactions
Turning Point USA’s “All-American” halftime show on Sunday has garnered both applause and criticism.
This alternative event featured performances by Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. Streaming live on YouTube simultaneously with Bad Bunny’s show, it attracted millions of viewers, peaking at around 5 million.
While many celebrated the performance, some described it as “overwhelming” and questioned Kid Rock’s singing abilities.
The show also honored the organization’s founder, Charlie Kirk. As Kid Rock concluded one of his songs, he dedicated it to Kirk, displaying a tribute that included a photo of Kirk’s family.
In a contrasting response, country artist Kacey Musgraves criticized Kid Rock on social media, saying that Bad Bunny’s performance made her feel prouder to be American than anything Kid Rock has produced.
Additionally, Jake Paul expressed his disapproval of Bad Bunny’s show in a tweet shortly before the halftime performance, calling the Puerto Rican singer “a performance of a fake American citizen who openly hates America.”
Paul challenged his fans to recognize their power and urged them to actively cancel the halftime show, implying music should represent unity instead of division.
Opinions on the two halftime shows vary greatly. One viewer expressed on social media that Turning Point’s show was remarkable, thanking the artists involved. However, another criticized the event, claiming it was inferior to Bad Bunny’s performance.
Some praised the alternative show as being “absolutely amazing” and “patriotic” while also stating unexpectedly positive feelings about their experience. Yet others felt that turning away from Bad Bunny’s show was unwarranted, dismissing the alternative as “nonsense” and questioning Kid Rock’s vocal talent.
