Kim Jong Un oversees air exercises in North Korea, emphasizes the need for improved war readiness

North Korea’s Military Preparations Intensify

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been actively overseeing military training, specifically focusing on air force exercises, as reported by state media. He stressed the importance of enhancing the nation’s war readiness. Kim observed anti-aircraft and air strike drills carried out by the 1st Air Division on Thursday, according to South Korea’s Central News Agency.

The outlet noted that North Korean officials have urged all branches of the military to push for significant advancements in their war preparation efforts.

In a recent drill, state television footage displayed a MIG-29 jet firing what appears to be a medium to long-range air-to-air missile, which was developed based on Russian designs, as explained by Hong Min, an analyst at the South Korean Institute for National Unification.

Earlier this month, Kim was notably present during various missile tests and inspections of military equipment, including tanks and ammunition facilities. He also reaffirmed ties with Russia during a visit to the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang, while observing tank firing exercises and special operation trainings.

Additionally, North Korea criticized the US State Department for its long-standing designation of the country as non-compliant with US counterterrorism efforts—a label it has held since 1997, as reported by South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency. A spokesperson from the North Korean Foreign Ministry asserted that the US’s provocative actions will only deepen the existing antagonism between the two nations.

The spokesperson also indicated that North Korea would implement “effective and appropriate measures” to counter any hostile provocations from the US across various sectors.
