Kim Kardashian faced criticism once again as some questioned her decision to allow her daughter, North, to get what seems to be a dermal piercing on her middle finger.
Fans observed the 12-year-old sporting the piercing while the two were on vacation in Rome last month. Dermal piercings differ from standard piercings because they “have no separate entry and exit point for the gemstone.”
A piercing company, Lulu Ave, cautioned on their website that finger piercings “may not heal properly due to frequent hand use and the likelihood of gems getting snagged or bumped.” They added that while dermal piercings might be preferable, they can still be rejected over time.
Some critics took to Reddit, expressing concern about a red bump near North’s piercing, with one commenter saying, “That looks infected!!!”
Another critic questioned the appropriateness of allowing such piercings, commenting, “She’s 12 years old. What is Kim doing?!”
Further criticisms included remarks that the piercing looked painful and might be rejected, with one user noting, “It already looks like it’s rejected and painful… poor girl.” However, a few defended Kardashian, suggesting that if a child wants piercings and the parent is attentive, it could be seen as a reasonable compromise.
During this same outing, Kardashian also drew attention for her choice of a corset and miniskirt, which some labeled “inappropriate.” Critics have urged her to be more cautious with her daughter’s wardrobe choices, citing concerns over maintaining a sense of innocence.
Yet, others defended Kardashian, stating that the public’s judgment was excessive and encouraged people to reflect on their own lives rather than criticize her parenting.
