“Old’s Fair” Returns for a Second Season Despite Mixed Reviews
The courtroom drama “Old’s Fair,” created by Ryan Murphy, is set for a second season on Hulu, even though the show hasn’t received the best reviews. This decision has been confirmed by various sources.
Featuring a cast that includes Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash, and Teyana Taylor, the series revolves around a group of female divorce lawyers who break away from a traditional, male-run law firm to launch their own.
The official description of the show hints at the intense and emotionally charged situations these women navigate, facing significant breakups, scandalous secrets, and changing dynamics within their team, all while battling it out in court.
Upon its debut earlier this month, “Old’s Fair” quickly attracted a large audience, becoming Hulu’s highest-rated original scripted series premiere in the last three years.
However, the critical reception has been harsh, with the series initially receiving a strikingly low 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which has since only slightly improved to around 3%.
Critics have not held back. One reviewer commented, “I didn’t know it was still possible to make television this bad.” Another called it “the worst TV show of the year.” The reviews highlighted the disconnect between viewers and the show’s attempted narratives.
Some critiques have focused on Kardashian’s outfits, labeled as “unrealistic,” prompting her to address the criticism directly on social media, asking followers if they had seen what she claimed to be “the most critically acclaimed show of the year.”
Glenn Close also drew attention when she shared a peculiar, hand-drawn illustration that referenced her character from the classic film “Fatal Attraction.” This drew mixed reactions online, with the “Old’s Fair” Instagram account calling it a “masterpiece.”
An interview with the show’s director, Anthony Hemingway, indicated he understood the mixed reviews but suggested there are many fans who love the series. He pointed out that while the show might not resonate with everyone, it invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences.
The first season of “Old’s Fair” will conclude with its finale on December 9. As for Hulu, they have yet to issue an official comment regarding the series renewals and the reviews.
