Kim Novak Voices Concerns Over Upcoming Biopic

Hollywood icon Kim Novak is apprehensive about how her past relationship with Sammy Davis Jr. will be depicted in the forthcoming biopic featuring Sidney Sweeney.

In the film “Scandalous!”, along with David Johnson, Sweeney portrays Novak’s ties with Davis Jr., which were quite controversial back in the 1950s. However, Novak seems conflicted, expressing uncertainty about the project.

“I don’t think the relationship is scandalous,” the 92-year-old actress noted. “He was someone I genuinely cared for.” She added that they shared a deep understanding, emphasizing the importance of recognizing themselves beyond appearances, particularly in the context of their sexual identities.

Sue Cameron, who has managed Novak for years, explained that at the time of their meeting, Novak had no intentions of marriage to Davis Jr.

“Kim and I are aware of several unauthorized projects revolving around Kim Novak and Sammy Davis events,” Cameron stated. “She never wanted to marry anyone then. It was a romance built on love and mutual respect.” They first encountered each other at a party and connected over their feelings of being outsiders. Novak hoped their relationship could challenge societal prejudices.

Additionally, Novak shared her feelings in a prior interview, mentioning that she was often misunderstood regarding her relationship with Davis Jr. “I loved him,” she reminisced, “There was something youthful and innocent about him.” Surprisingly, she noted that she had never really seen a person of color before meeting him.

Reflecting on her early life, Novak recalled her first crush on a boy who was Mexican. “He was in my church. My first love.” Yet, she felt tremendous pressure from the studio at the time. “I resisted because I knew it wasn’t right.” She expressed a desire to help others embrace different races and relationships, believing it was crucial for that change.

In discussing the film, director Colman Domingo shared hopes to create a heartwarming portrayal of love in varied contexts. He noted, “We aim to craft a beautiful movie, reflecting genuine human experiences and challenges.” He emphasized the importance of defending one’s humanity in the process.
