Kim Yeji’s shooting glasses stealing the show during 2024 Olympics

South Korean marksman Kim Ye-ji has attracted attention at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Kim, who won silver in the 10m air pistol event on Sunday, caused a stir on social media after wearing custom-made shooting glasses during the competition.

Many were intrigued by the silver hardware with a black cover on the left eye and a lens on the right eye.

Kim also had a toy elephant attached to her uniform, as seen in photos from the event, which multiple reports said belonged to her daughter.

The 31-year-old Kim set a new record with a strong performance at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre in Paris.

Her final score of 241.3 points surpassed the previous women’s 10m air pistol shooting Olympic record of 240.3 points set by Vitalina Vatsarashkina in Tokyo in 2021.

Kim’s teammate and roommate, 19-year-old Oh Ye-jin, also surpassed that record on her way to winning gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Kim explained that she thinks of Oh as a sister.

“I don’t think of her as a rival,” Kim said, “I always care about her and I always want to be by her side, so I was very happy when she won the gold medal.”

“The Olympics is a big stage and we won gold and silver. When we won the medals, we felt very proud to be Korean.”

India’s Manu Bhakar won the bronze medal.
