Kimberly Guilfoyle Resigns as U.S. Ambassador to Greece
Kimberly Guilfoyle has officially stepped down from her role as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, following a series of scandals that garnered significant media attention.
Her resignation came on a Monday, just hours after the new White House Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia, revealed that the administration had requested her departure. This development followed comments made by President Donald Trump earlier that day, indicating he was contemplating her termination.
Guilfoyle attracted headlines due to her ostentatious lifestyle and for reportedly soliciting a $100,000 wire transfer from Trump supporter Eric Deters to cover her American Express expenses. It was also reported that she offered wealthy individuals connections with Trump. Interestingly, the wire transfer never went through, and Guilfoyle’s lawyer contests the validity of these allegations.
In her resignation, Guilfoyle expressed gratitude to the administration for her time in the ambassadorial role and denied the various accusations that surrounded her. “These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity,” she stated in a post on social media. “I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional. I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service.”
During her first briefing, Zacharia noted that the decision for Guilfoyle to resign was made by the administration, acknowledging her contributions. “She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well,” Zacharia said.
There are reports indicating that the State Department’s Office of Inspector General is investigating Guilfoyle over the solicitation of the $100,000. Deters commented in an NBC News interview, claiming, “She was so desperate for that $100,000. It was a quid pro quo. She said I could ask her for anything and everything in Trump world. There was no request too big.”
Interestingly, Trump hinted at the possibility of Guilfoyle’s job being in jeopardy during a conversation with reporters the previous Sunday. “Well, we’re looking at it,” he remarked when asked about the situation. “We’re not happy about it.”
