Kimberly Guilfoyle is under investigation by the Senate regarding a report on influence peddling.

U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, could soon find herself under scrutiny by the Senate due to serious accusations of influence peddling. These claims emerged from a report by the Wall Street Journal, which suggested that before her confirmation as ambassador, she allegedly urged a prominent donor to President Donald Trump to settle a $100,000 personal credit card debt.

John Barrasso, the Senate Majority Whip from Wyoming, voiced his concern on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” stating that the details from the report are “very troubling” and suggest that an investigation is warranted. He indicated his belief that the State Department would lead any inquiry, while also suggesting that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee would be involved in the oversight process. He stressed the public’s right to be aware of the findings, which he characterized as deeply concerning.

Guilfoyle, who was engaged to Donald Trump Jr. until a public split in 2024, was confirmed for her ambassador role last year. As allegations regarding her behavior in Greece mount, some are speculating that her tenure may be cut short. The Office of Inspector General at the State Department has already initiated an investigation into claims of prior misconduct by Guilfoyle.

Further complicating matters, a separate report indicated that this investigation also concerns her reportedly extravagant lifestyle while in Greece, including accusations of mistreating staff and improperly accepting gifts. The Daily Mail reported these claims, highlighting her ties to a construction and energy company, as well as possible substance abuse issues.

One of the latest allegations suggests that Guilfoyle may have solicited donor Eric Deters to pay off a $100,000 bill to American Express directly and advised him to avoid leaving any documentation. Deters has claimed he never completed the payment.

In light of these revelations, both Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are reportedly very displeased with Guilfoyle’s actions and are considering her possible removal from her position, according to a senior U.S. official cited by the Associated Press. Rubio did not hesitate to criticize the reporting on the allegations, asserting that just because someone claimed a story was true does not make it factual, emphasizing a more accountable approach to such claims.
